John Avinger has been studying, playing and promoting hand drumming since 1981. He was the director and producer of the Seattle World Rhythm Festival for 12 years, ran John's Music from 1981 to 2011, has taught drumming workshops for the Evergreen Orff Chapter (elementary music teachers), directed the kids drumming ensemble, Drums and Roses, which performed for the World Rhythm Festival and the Evergreen Orff Chapter, directed the junk percussion marching ensemble for the Solstice parade, and lots of other stuff.

After 30 years of business, John retired from retail sales, and closed John's Music Center. The store's last day of operation was August 31, 2011. She continues to serve music and dance educators through the internet and in person at workshops, courses and conferences. Mad Robin Music offers an on-site Orff Instrument Repair Service, as well as parts and technical support for teachers wishing to do their own repairs.
